Downspout Flushing: Booking It and Checking It
Of all the items on a gutter quote, this is the one most often left vague. Here is how to pin it down and how to confirm it happened.

Put it in writing
Some companies fold the pipe check into a base price, others list it as an extra, and a few skip it unless you raise it. Before the day, ask for the answer in a text or email: all downspouts, or only the ones that seem slow?
If your house has long runs, several corners or a buried drain line at the base, mention that when you request a quote. We price differently when we know there are six outlets than when we expect two.
How to verify it afterward
You do not need tools. Run a garden hose into the top of the gutter beside each downspout and watch the bottom. You want a strong, even flow, and no leaking at the joints.
If the water comes slowly or backs up in the trough, tell whoever did the work right away. A reputable company will want to revisit it. Photos taken on the spot help settle it quickly.
What to have ready
Clear the base of each downspout of pots, hoses and stored items so we can reach it. Know where each outlet discharges, whether to a splash block, a pop-up emitter or an underground line, and say so.
If a buried line is involved, that may be beyond gutter cleaning, and we will tell you so. For background on why this matters, see the regional guide.
